City Plumbing supports DIY SOS across the UK
City Plumbing, part of Highbourne Group, has supported the BBC’s DIY SOS programme with product donations worth more than £10,000 for recent big builds in Leicester, London, Southampton and its Children in Need special in Cheshire, The Joshua Tree.
The BAFTA award-winning programme reached out to suppliers, and City Plumbing was more than happy to step in and provide a range of products, including radiators, heated towel rails, boiler accessories and piping.
The DIY SOS Children in Need special focused on The Joshua Tree, a cancer centre for children that currently offers support, respite and counselling for more than 300 families. Demand for The Joshua Tree’s offering is increasing, so the DIY SOS team came in to extend the facilities so the centre can accommodate more families.
In Leicester, the DIY SOS team was called in to support seven-year-old Isla, who has a rare condition called Mandibuloacral Dysplasia, along with her mum and sister. A simple fall could cause serious harm for Isla, so the aim was to create a home that was safe and functional.
In South East London, sister and brother Somer, 30, and Samuel, 25, became responsible for their three younger siblings after the death of their mum, including youngest brother, Seth, who is registered blind, severely autistic and has renal failure. The house was in urgent need of renovation and repair, with the layout becoming dangerous for Seth.
In Southampton, parents Ahmen and Rifat Ali, who are both deaf, and their three children were left sleeping in one room after paying more than £70,000 for a renovation that was never completed, leaving the rest of their home unsafe. The DIY SOS team stepped in to renovate all these projects with the help of the local community and suppliers donating products.
Darren Redwood, Operations Director at City Plumbing, said: “We were delighted to support the DIY SOS builds by providing a range of our plumbing and heating products from local branches in Lewisham, Leicester Progress Way, Crewe and Lymington for these worthy projects. Seeing the final results and the difference they will make to the families and communities involved is wonderful. We’re proud to have played a part in projects that will have such a positive and lasting impact on people’s lives.”
